The Meaning
In this artwork the sky represents universal mind and enlightenment.
"The true nature of your mind, is like that of the sky"
In Buddhism; Nirvana (or Nibanna) is the ultimate spiritual goal. It is the freedom from attachment and from desire. Reaching this state releases us from the material world forever.
The Connection
In life we all know we should be more involved in the pursuit of spiritual attainment over pursuit of material goods yet we are reluctant, and more so than not, slow to follow that path. So, like in this image of Kurt Cobain, we are all slouching our way towards Nibanna.
Drawing The Original
The drawing took 280 hours to complete using a combination of paint marker (for the pitch Black parts) and ballpoint for the shading and detail helped create a sense of depth and contrast.
